Not only is Peach easy to pick up for beginners, but she reached top competitive tiers when in the hands of pros. Peach This quintessential damsel in distress is far from helpless in Smash, especially when she first debuted in Melee. Just don't let Nana get KO'd, let's just say Popo's not exactly a great solo act. Practice pays off though, because skilled Ice Climbers players are able to deal big damage using their numbers advantage, though the days of condemning their opponents to an icy chain-grabbing purgatory are long gone. To master these characters, you had to work on using each one effectively, no easy task considering you can't directly control Nana. Melee released, dramatically increasing size of the series' roster, one of the more perplexing inclusions was that of the adorable Nana and Popo. Olimar is not only a top tier contender in the competitive scene, but a wonderful of example of how even the most unlikely of characters can make for a great Smash fighter. Whether you want to throw, zone, edge-guard, or just outright pulverize your opponent, a Pikmin can be weaponized for every occasion. While definitely not a character for beginners, those who learn the abilities of each colored Pikmin were well rewarded. Olimar Olimar as a fighter is as strange as he is powerful thanks to the assortment of colored Pikmin who follow him around, bringing sweet death to all who stand in his way. There are few thrills greater than landing a fully-charged PK Flash or using his recovery move to turn Ness himself into a psychically charged projectile capable of obliterating opponents. But besting that learning curve yields some of the most gratifying maneuvers in the game. Ness Earthbound's psychic protagonist has always been one of the trickier characters in Smash to master, with his floaty physics and difficult recovery move. Plus, Sonic coming to Smash Brothers meant that Sonic's music came to Smash as well, and that's just a match made in heaven.ġ8. The result is a ridiculously fun character with a unique playstyle that incorporates his iconic spin dashes and homing attacks from the mainline Sonic games. Sonic One of the most amazing feats of character design in Smash Brothers is that they were able to properly take Sonic’s blistering fast speed, and make it work within the confines of the rules of Smash. Really, just getting to switch between the Kanto starters mid-combat made this fighter a dream come true for Pokemon fans. Even with that, Squirtle proved to be the very best of the trio and made a mark on the competitive scene with its quick attack game.

Although, the flavoring of the character went a little sour with the Stamina mechanic that causes each Pokemon to eventually tire out and lose effectiveness. The attention to detail with this fighter is amazing, right down to how we can see Red tossing Pokeballs and giving commands in the background. Pokemon Trainer Brawl took the switching mechanic to the max with Pokemon Trainer, a three-in-one fighter utilizing the speed of Squirtle, the range of Ivysaur, and the unbridled rage of Charizard.

He’s got fast movement, great aerials, fantastic normals, and the unique limit break mechanic that makes him a huge threat even at low percentages. All of that would be a waste if he wasn’t a fun or good characters to use, but fortunately, Cloud is a blast. Cloud Much like Bayonetta, but on an even grander scale, Cloud is a dream character that very few people thought would ever appear in Smash. Though his moves demand great precision, those who can master the green dinosaur are well rewarded.
